Driving in New Zealand | Related Links

New Zealanders drive on the left-hand side of the road.

Provided you hold a current driver’s licence in your home country OR an international driving permit, you can drive in New Zealand for up to one year. After one year you need to apply for a New Zealand driver’s permit.

By law you must always have your licence with you when you’re driving. You will be permitted to drive the same types of vehicles you are licensed to drive in your home country. The minimum legal age to rent a car in New Zealand is 25 years.
