Driving in Australia | Related Links

Australians drive on the left-hand side of the road.

If you are a temporary resident in Australia, then you are able to drive in all states using your current overseas licence, but you will need to carry this with you at all times when you are in charge of a motor vehicle.

If your foreign drivers licence is in english, there is no need to obtain an international drivers licence, however if you do, remember that you must always carry your foreign drivers licence with you at all times. If your current licence is in a language other than english, then acquiring an international drivers licence is highly recommended.

Road rules in Australia differ slightly from state to state, and it is best to enquire with the local state authority regarding the local 'rules of the road' prior to commencing to drive.
