Getting it right from the start
Presenting a CV in a format that is widely accepted by our clients is of paramount importance. To ensure your CV meets our client’s requirements, please ensure that you include:
- Full Name, address and contact details
- Details of Primary Qualifications; full description and where and when they were obtained
- Details of any Postgraduate Qualifications;full description and where and when they were obtained
- Details of current and past professional registrations
- Fully detailed employment history commencing with your current position in reverse chronology; this should include:
- Dates of employment (preferably from and to dates in DD/MM/YYYY format)
- Details of Employer
- Position Title
- Details of Position Duties - provide as much information as possible about what you duties entail.
- Details of Continuing Professional Development
- Details of at least three professional referees
Explain any gaps in employment
Any gaps in employment, no matter how small, should be explained. For example:
- Holiday
- Volunteer work (please ensure you indicate if professional registration was required while you were undertaking such work if applicable)
- Family time
- Any other gaps in employment that exceed 4 weeks and the reason why eg. studying for exams, research activities etc.
Presentation and Fonts
We appreciate that you can add many effects and styles to your CV, however one that is presented in a professional format should:
- Use the same font throughout the entire document
- Not use multiple colours
- Not use bold in the middle of sentences or paragraphs unnecessarily
- Use the 'tab' function available in all word proceesors, rather than attempting to allign text by using the space bar
